On 15 February, a group of researchers from the Thermal Spray Centre, including its Director, Dr. Irene García, had the opportunity to visit the ITER project, which aims to produce a fusion plasma capable of generating a thermal power ten times greater than that needed to heat the plasma and is located in the French town of Saint-Paul-les-Duranze. ITER is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the word and it is crucial to advancing fusion science and preparing the way for the fusion power plants of tomorrow. During this visit, the members of the CPT were able to learn first-hand about the objectives, plans and current status of this international-scale project, as well as to visit the facilities where the tokamak nuclear fusion reactor, currently under construction, is located.
